The graph illustrates the changes in railway track length across four countries from 1980 till 2010.
Overall, graph depicts two declined trends. USA and Russia both had decrease in their railway track usage over the thirty year period. On the other hand, China and India had a steady growth. Although USA had gradual decline , it had the most usage at the end, China demonstrated the most rapid growth.
The USA began the period with the longest railway system , recorded 250.000 km in 1980.This trend decreased steadily in every five year falling approximately to 220.00 by 2010. Despite this decline , USA remained the leader in railway track usage. Russia followed the same pattern starting at 150.000 and its length in railway track usage decreased significantly being at approximately at 130.000 km by 2010.
On the other hand , India and China grew.China had the shortest railway track usage at only 30.000.However it had the fastest growth among all four countries. By 1990 China passed India in railway track usage and it reached 90.000 by 2010. India’s railway track usage also increased. It started in 40.000 km and grew significantly by 2010.
