The line graph depicts the change in measurement of acid rain emissions in tonnes from four separated sectors in the UK over the period of 16 years. It is evident that the emissions in the UK decreased significantly between 1990 and 2007. While the emissions produced by the electricity, gas and water supply firms decreased most dramatically, the numbers of the transport and communication sector remained stable, in terms of emissions output.
A significant decline in the number of acid rain emission in was seen in four sectors from 1991 to 1999, with the most decrease in electricity, gas and water supply sectors with a halving of 1.5 million tons in 1999, while the number of emissions in transport and communication sector decreased 0.5 million tones to 1.5 millions tones in 1999. In addition, there were no significant changes in the trends for emissions output in other industries and domestic sectors.
By 2007, while the number of acid rain emissions in the natural resources industry dropped dramatically to 0.5 million tones, the figure in transport and communications increased slightly before decreasing to 0.7 millions. Also,the significant decrease was also recorded in other industries and the domestic sector to 1.3 million and 0.1 million tones, respectively.
