The bar chart illustrates the amount of time per week spent by men and women doing seven activities around the home.
Overall, women allocated the most time to do household chores (cooking, cleaning the house, and washing up) and reading, whereas men spent the most time on doing leisure activities (watching television and surfing the internet). While cleaning the house and gardening occupied the bottom position for men, it was gardening for women.
Regarding household chores and reading, women spent 15 hours on cooking, while it was considerably lower for men (9 hours). Similarly, women (7 hours) dedicated more time to washing up than men (5 hours). The figure of cleaning the house for women (5 hours) was more than twice as high as that of men (2 hours). Reading, on the other hand, remained relatively the same for both genders, accounting for roughly 5 hours.
Turning to leisure activities and gardening, the figure for watching television was higher for men than women, with men allocating 14 hours and women spending 12 hours. Surfing the internet represented the most substantial gap between these genders, with men (12 hours) spending three times as long as that of women (4 hours). However, both genders spent the smallest amount of time on gardening (2 hours for men and just an hour for women).
