The line graph compares the price of the color TV, price of black and white TV, and the salary of a typical Japanese per month, measured in Yen. The data covers a 30-year period from 1953 to 1983.
Overall, it is clear that both of the prices of color TV and black and white TV had downward trends, whereas the monthly salary of a Japanese had an upward trend. It is also noticeable that Japanese salary had overtaken the price of black an white TV in year 1973, and also surpassed the price of color TV in 1980.
In detail, the price of black and white TV started at 110,000 yen in 1953, however it dropped significantly to 40,000 yen in around 1960. It can be seen that the figure continued to decline until it was overtaken by the monthly income of Japanese in 1972 at roughly 25,000 yen before dropping to 20,000 yen in 1983.
A similar pattern can be noted with the price of black and white TV. The price of the color TV was initially 100,000 yen at the beginning of the year, also decreased continually, then it was surpassed by the monthly wages of Japanese accounted for 50,000 yen in 1980 before reaching roughly 48,000 yen by the end of the period.
By contrast, the monthly stipend of Japanese rose steadily starting at approximately 18,000 yen before climbing to around 68,000 yen.
