The line graph depicts the quantity of passenger railway trips in Great Britain from 1950 to 2004/05.
Overall, London underground and Light rail & metro systems railways witnessed a rise in passengers using them. In addition, London underground railway saw the most significant increase. Meanwhile, usage of National rail network decreased slightly. It is worth mentioning, that Light rail & metro systems railway was by far the less usable category throughout the observed period.
As for the railways with upward trends, passengers using London underground declined from just under 750 millions in 1950 to only 500 in the beginning of 80’s. The number of passengers then hit a first peak at approximately 800 millions in late 80’s. There was a dip again after that, however, it recovered with further increase and ended up at nearly 1100 in 2004/05. Meanwhile, Light rail & metro systems railways have been remaining almost stable between early 60’s and 1980 with the value of around 1 million passangers. After 1980, the quantity of passengers rose till the end, accounting about 200 in 2004/05.
Considering only one category with downward trend, usage of National rail network went up in late 50’s with just under 1100, and then decreased until early 80’s, hitting a low at nearly 600 millions trips. It increased chaotically, accounting just under 1000 in 2004/05.
