The bar chart illustrates the proportion of men and women employed as faculty members across seven different disciplines at a specific university in 2012.
In 2012, the faculties of engineering, business, science, and law remained predominantly male. However, women represented an equal share of the faculty in medicine and comprised the majority in education and arts.
There was a significant gender disparity among some faculties: engineering was overwhelmingly staffed by male academics, while education featured the highest percentage of female faculty. Specifically, it is notable that 85% of engineering instructors were men, leaving only 15% as women. In contrast, three-quarters (75%) of academic staff in education were women, with men making up just 25%.
Conversely, other faculties displayed a more balanced gender composition. In medicine, the gender representation was nearly equal, while just over half of the academics in arts were women (55%). Interestingly, both the business and science faculties exhibited the same gender distribution, with 65% male and 35% female academics. Law had a slightly higher percentage of men, accounting for 60% of the faculty.
