The first statistics provide information on changes in total, rural, and urban population in Southern Pacific Ocean countries from 1950 to 2040, while the second shows changes in many groups of ages in the same period.
Overall, the total population continues to increase to 2040, urban inhabitants are outnumbering the rural inhabitants during the entire period. The under 15 years group age remains the highest figure, while the over 65 years group is the lowest.
As can be seen, the total population will increase continuously, from around 12 millions in 1950 to over 40 millions in 2040. In 1950, the urban inhabitants were just under 10 millions but then will rise sharply up to over 30 millions in 2040, rural inhabitants followed a similar pattern but less pronounced, from around 5 millions to just over 10 millions.
As for the age structure, the age group under 15 years remains the highest figure among the three groups, and its population will increase dramatically from just over 5 million in 1950 to around 28 million in 2040. The group from 15 to 65 years will slightly rise over the entire period, the over 65 years group followed a similar pattern but more pronounced. In the last 10 years of the period, the over 65 years group will surprisingly take over the 15 to 65 years group with the population just under 10 millions.
