The illustration provides information about the construction of an igloo made from snow. In general, the entire process contains 5 main stages, starting with materials preparation, and ending with a complete snow dome.
In the first main step, it is necessary to find a place with hard-packed snow, then manually distort it into snow cubes with proper size. Afterwards, placing each large block at the bottom for the base, whereas the largest ones must be on the top. To put snow cubes in exact positions, these need to have the edges cut smoothly and to build around the middle. Moreover, a hole is dug beneath the wall to create an entrance.
Moving on to the next stage, the snow dome has to be manually covered by snow to ensure all crevices are filled. Once this is complete, the interior of the igloo will also be smoothed by hand. Thereafter, excessive snow will be removed, and a small roof will be constructed to cover the areas in which snow has been taken away.
