The line graph compares the proportion of rice shipments from Thailand to four countries (China, Japan, Korea and India) over a 25-year period between 1995 and 2020.
Overall, the percentage of rice exported to China increased constantly and became the largest importer. While trading rice to Japan decreased steadily then remained stable.
In 1995, the proportion of rice sold abroad to China was only 5%. Nevertheless, this figure rose continuously to 30% in 2020 and was the highest in four countries. Meanwhile,the percentage of rice shipments to Japan was highest at the beginning, with around 25% in 1995. However, it declined gradually to 18% in 2005 and remained unchanged during the last 15 years.
Around 10% of rice was exported to Korea in 1995 and reached a peak of about 15% in 2005. From then on, the figure fell significantly to only 2% in 2020. Similarly, the percentage of rice sold abroad to India was 7% in 1995 and rose considerably 15% in 2010. It then dropped slightly and stayed unchanged at around 13% in 2020
