The line graph compares mobile and fixed-line phones in terms of what percentage of people, per 100 inhabitants, subscribe to them in Africa between 1994 and 2004
In general, mobile phones experienced a consistently rising trend, later becoming the highest by far in terms of membership percentage. Similarly, percentage of fixed-line phone subscribers rose slightly, albeit less so, seeing more stable and gradual increase.
Starting from the beginning of the period, in 1994, initial figures for fixed-line and mobile phones were 1.7% and 0.06%, respectively. By subsequent years, former rose minimally by negligible percentage, while figure for latter, for comparison, increased significantly by whopping 3% and eventually, in 2001 surpassing the fixed-line phone.
From 2001 onward, percentage of fixed-line subscribers remained almost unchanged, eventually reaching 3.1% by the end of the period. Conversely, that of for mobile phone grew dramatically, ultimately climbing to staggering 8.8%.
