The line graph compares the proportions of expenditure in five categories in a European country between 1960 and 2000.
Overall, all categories experienced different trends over the time period. While food, leisure, transport, and energy decreased, the figure for clothing increased gradually during the given period.
As the graph shows, the category of food was the highest in 1960, at around 33%. The following decade, its figure decreased to exactly 30%, and from this period, its percentage continued falling and it reached about 15% in 2000. In second rank was leisure, with 20% at the beginning of the period, but its figure also started to decrease gradually to just over 10% in 2000. The categories of transport and energy were 10% and about 5%, respectively. These figures also witnessed a gradual decrease to under about 8% at the end of the period.
By contrast, expenditure on clothing started at just under 10% in 1960, and in the following decades its percentage increased gradually. In 1990, the figure surpassed that of leisure, and in 2000 it reached the first rank at around 15%, that is a little more than food.
