The line graph illustrates the proportion of visitors to four Edinburgh attractions, including the aquarium, castle, zoo and festival, over a 30-year period.
In 1980, the proportion of people choosing to visit the castle was around 25%. Over the next 25 years, this continued to increase significantly, peaking at around 45% in 1995. Since then, this has gradually decreased to around 35% in 2010. The zoo’s figure also increased by around 15% from 1995 to 20% in 2010.
Looking at other attractions, the aquarium’s proportion of visitors was 20% in its first year. In 1985, it peaked at around 35%, which was the highest level for that year. However, this figure has since dropped significantly to below 10% in 2010. The number of festivals has also decreased gradually over this period. It recovered to a peak of around 30% in 1980, but then declined moderately to almost 25% by the end of 2010.
Overall, the zoo, castle and festival grounds attract the largest number of overseas visitors each year, while the aquarium is the least popular of the four Edinburgh attractions.
