The line graph illustrates how much the amount of paper, wood pulp, and sawn-wood produced in the UK over a two-decade period, starting in 1980.
Overall, there were significant changes in the production of paper, wood pulp, and sawn-wood in all items shown on the graph. The figure for paper and packaging increased dramatically, while the opposite was true for sawn-wood and wood pulp.
To begin with the amount of paper and packaging produced, starting initially at 220 million tonnes, the figure for paper and packaging increased noticeably by 30% in 1990. However, over a decade, a dramatic rise was seen in the manufacture of paper and packaging from 250 million tonnes to 350 million tonnes.
As for sawn-wood and wood pulp, the former saw a slight decline from 200 million tonnes and 150 million tonnes in 1990, meanwhile the latter declined slightly from 170 million tonnes to 150 million tonnes. Although 150 million tonnes of sawn-wood were produced in 1990, this figure saw a noticeable reduction to 120 million tonnes. But, the manufacture of wood pulp had increased significantly to 160 million tonnes by 2000.
