Overall, it is clear that the consumption of spreads in low fat and reduced spreads increased, while the figures for margarine and butter declined. Among these low fat and reduced spreads showed the biggest increase. By the end of the period margarine and butter had the lowest consumption.
Between low fat and reduced spreads the users of spreads rose from around 10 to about 85 grams between 1986 and 2001. Then it declined from 85 around 85 to nearly 70 grams during the period from 2001 to 2007.
In contrast, the consumers of spreads margarine and butter spreads increased from from around close to 145 to around 145 to nearly 150 grams. The it fell over the period between 1981 and 1986. Then it fell from about 159 to 100 grams during the year 1986-1991. After that the figure increased from 100 to around 55 grams between 1991 and 2007. Over the period it showed the biggest decrease. On the other hand the consumption of but margarine spreads decreased slightly during the period around 90 to 80 grams from 1981 to 1986.
Then it fluctuated rose marginally then fell from 80 to 40 grams between 1986 and 2007.
