The line graph illustrates information about how many people attended top level football matches in three European countries (Italy, England, Germany) from 1980 to 2004.
Overall, it is clear from the chart that there were noticeable upward trends in the football matches all the three countries throughout the over period. While England and Germany increased, the opposite is true for Italy.
England and Germany showed much bigger figures compared to Italy. Focusing on the increases first, England started at 26,000 people and attended top level football matches in 1980. Having declined slightly to just above 2,000 people after six years, the figure then recovered to about 1,000 people in 1998 and continued to rise significantly until the end of the period, finishing at just under 34,000 people in 2004.
Likewise, Germany attendance for football matches began at just 25,000 people in the initial year after which it dropped to 19,000 in 1986, the number of people who attended football matches increased steadily to 33,000 people in 2004.
In contrast, Germany exhibited a more rapid change during the entire duration. Starting at 25,000 people in 1980, the figure for Germany dropped to 19,000 in 1986, after which it witnessed a dramatic increase throughout the rest of the years. The number of football fans in Germany grew consistently, climbing to approximately 33,000 in 2004. By the end of the period, the attendance in Germany and England had both surpassed the figures for Italy.
