The line graph illustrates how much money four cafes in New York earned over last year, measured in thousands of US dollars.
Overall, there was an upward trend in the revenue of most of the surveyed cafes, except for The Tea Room, whose income varied throughout the year before declining sharply towards the end. Notably, although Wi-fi Cafe initially had a relatively low income, its revenue rose dramatically to become the most profitable brand in the final month.
Looking first at The Tea Room and Internet Express, both cafes started at $160,000 and $100,000 respectively. The former saw a slight decrease to around $130,000 in February before recovering and reaching a peak of just below $180,000 in March. However, this peak was short-lived, as it subsequently fluctuated between approximately $120,000 and $150,000 for several months before falling sharply to about $50,000 in December, placing The Tea Room in last position. By contrast, the latter dropped modestly to $80,000 in April.Thereafter, it remained relatively stable in the following three months before rising gradually to nearly $140,000 in the final month, allowing Internet Express to maintain second place.
Turning to Wi-fi Cafe and Cafe Cool, these two establishments started from much lower bases but displayed stronger growth patterns. The income of Wi-fi Cafe grew steadily to just below $100,000 in July, followed by a moderate decline to around $60,000 in September. After that, it increased sharply to about $190,000 in December, allowing Wi-fi Cafe to become the highest earner among four cafes. Similarly, the figure for Cafe Cool fluctuated around relatively low levels between February and October before its income increased substantially to $120,000 in December. Due to this increase, it overtook The Tea Room and finished in third place.
