The line graph demonstrates proportion of people by four age groups visiting the cinema from 1978 to 2008.
Overall, the age group 14-24 consistently had the highest percentage of cinema-goers over the entire period, while those 50 and above remained the least represented group. The whole groups experienced a decline in 1988, followed by a recovery in the subsequent years.
The three younger groups (14-24, 25-34 and 35-49) followed a similar trend. Starting at 90% 80%, and 60% respectively in 1978, all experienced a decline in 1988 to 75%, 60% and 40%. A decade later, their figures bounced back to roughly their initial levels, except for the second group (70%). Afterwards, all there saw mild decreases, ending at 80%, 65% and 50% in 2008.
In contrast, the 50+ group remained for behind. From 40% in 1978, their attendance dropped by 20% in 1988, then rose gradually to 50% in 2008. Despite this recovery, they still had the lowest participation rate in every year shown
