The line graph illustrates the percentage of journeys made using four different types of transportation (car, bus, rail, and others) in a particular country from 1985 to 2015.
Overall, the use of cars increased significantly over the period, becoming the most dominant mode of transport, while bus usage saw a consistent decline. The use of rail and other forms of transport remained relatively low and stable in comparison.
In 1985, bus travel accounted for the highest proportion of journeys, at around 55%, but this figure steadily decreased over the years, falling to about 10% by 2015. In contrast, car usage started at approximately 30% and rose consistently, peaking at around 75% in 2005 before slightly declining to 68% by 2015.
Rail and other forms of transport began at much lower percentages. Rail travel experienced minor fluctuations, starting at just under 20%, dipping slightly in the 1990s, then increasing gradually to reach 20% again in 2015. Other transport types remained the least used throughout the period, with a slight rise and fall but never exceeding 10%.
