The line graph delineates the proportion of travel undertaken by four different modes of transport: car, bus, rail ,and others, in a particular country, in a 30-year period, from 1985 to 2015.
Overall, it is evident that whereas bus travel saw a substantial decline, car and rail travel experienced an upward trend. In addition, the figure for others remained the lowest throughout the period.
Concerning the upward trend, the percentage for car usage stood at 30% in 1985, after which it increased steadily and peaked at over 80% in 2000, thereby becoming the most popular type of travel. However, this figure gradually declined to 70% at the end of the period. Rail travel accounted for just 20% in 1985, After a slight drop in the following years, it reached a low point at approximately 10% in 2000, the figure gradually increased and climbed back to 20% in 2015.
In contrast, bus travel began with the highest proportion, at over 50% in 1985, then experiencing a consistent decrease to nearly 15% in 2005. This figure remained unchanged in the following years before dropping to about 10% by the end of the period. Similarly, other forms of transports, which initially comprised only near 10% in 1985, fluctuated slightly over the same time frame, before seeing a sharp decline to below 10% in 2015.
