The line graph illustrates the percentage of travel using four types of transport in one country from 1985 to 2015.
Overall, while car usage had strong growth in travelling and became the most popular transport in 2015, bus usage continuously had a downward trend. The percentages for rail and others remained respectively stable and experienced some slight fluctuations.
In terms of the highest and lowest proportion in two types of transport, in 1985, around 30% of people travelled by car. This figure surged sharply to 70% in 1995 and reached at approximately 85% in 2005, but finally had a slight decline and dropped down to 70% in 2015, remaining the highest among all transport types. In contrast, the “others” category had the lowest percentage, staying below 10% during the period – starting at about 9% in 1985 and ending with 5% in 2015.
Regarding bus and rail travel, the percentage of people using buses dropped significantly over the time. In 1985, bus usage was the highest percentage among four types of transport, beginning at 55% in 1985 and then had a substantial decrease over the time span, finally ending at around 9%. This significant decline made bus travel one of the least preferred options by the end of the period. On the other hand, rail travel remained relatively stable throughout the period, starting at 1985 and ending at 2015, the figure stood at close to 20% overall, although there were some slight fluctuations in the middle of the period.
