The given graph offers insights into three difficult crimes: car theft, house burgling and street robbery in the 35-year period from 1970 to 2005.
Most strikingly, the number of car thefts was the highest during the years surveyed. Whereas, the figure for street robbery was the lowest.
In 1970, the most popular form of crime was car theft at around 0.4 million, while house burglary and street robbery were a little lower at about 0.1 and 0.2 million, respectively. After 20 years, the figure for car theft and house burgling experienced an upward trend. In which, the former increased significantly to approximately 1 million, while the latter fluctuated within a margin of nearly 0.8 million. By contrast, the figure for street robbery remained flat at 0.1 million.
In 1995, the number of car thefts went up significantly and hit a peak of 1.6 million before falling considerably to 1 million in 2005. Besides, there was a slight decrease in the number of house burgling from around 0.7 million in 1995 to nearly 0.6 in 2005. By contrast, the figure for street robbery saw an upward trend from 1995 to 2000 and then remained stable 2 years later at 0.2 million.
