The line chart illustrates the number of people in the UK who went abroad and the number of overseas residents visiting the UK between 1979 and 1999 while the bar graph shows the countries which are the most popular visited by people in the UK in the year of 1999.
It is clear that the number of visits abroad by UK residents was higher than the other group.
As can be seen from the line chart, the number of people in the UK who visited abroad saw a slight increase from over 13 million people in 1979 to 20 million people in 1986. After that period, there was a dramatic rise of 32 million UK residents visiting abroad. Between 1979 and 1999, the number of visits to the UK by overseas residents climbed gradually by 18 million people.
It is clear that France had the highest visits by UK residents of five countries in 1999 with approximately 12 million UK visitors, followed by Spain with about 9 million people. Turkey was the least popular country which attracted over 2 million visits by UK residents in the year of 1999. At the same time, the number of UK residents who went to Greece and the USA was around 3 and 4 million people.
