The maps show how the layout of the village of Ryemouth changed between 1995 and 2005.
Overall, Ryemouth was transformed from a mostly residential and green area into a more developed recreational place. The most notable changes were the disappearance of farmland and the public park, replaced by leisure facilities and new buildings.
In 1995, there was a sports field and several houses in the west of the village. A public park was located in the centre, with a hotel in front of it. To the south, near the sea, there was a fishing area with a fish market and several fishing boats. A café was situated opposite the hotel, and in the northeast, there was farmland.
By 2005, the farmland had been replaced by a golf course and a tennis court. The public park was removed and holiday homes were built in its place. The number of houses in the west increased, and a restaurant replaced the sports field. The fish market and fishing boats were removed, and apartments were constructed near the sea along with a yacht harbour. Finally, a car park was added to the east of the hotel.
