The map illustrates the town of Garlsdon, where a new supermarket is planned. It presents two potential locations (S1 and S2) for the proposed development.
Overall, both sites offer distinct advantages. While S1 is situated on the outskirts of the town and provides easier access to nearby towns, S2 is located in the town centre, making it considerably more convenient for the majority of Garlsdon’s residents.
Regarding S1, it lies to the north-west of the town, outside the residential area and close to the main road leading to Hindon, which is approximately 12 km away and has a population of 10,000. The site is also connected by the railway and is relatively accessible from Bransdon, located 16 km to the south-west with a population of 15,000. Consequently, this location would be suitable for attracting customers from neighbouring towns as well as local residents.
In contrast, S2 is positioned within the town centre, which is surrounded by a large housing area. This location is therefore likely to be more convenient for Garlsdon’s population of 65,000. Furthermore, it is connected to the main road leading to Cransdon, a larger nearby town situated 25 km away with a population of 29,000. Although S2 is farther from the other two towns than S1, its central position would enable most local residents to reach the supermarket more easily.
