In 1962, the island was largely undeveloped. It contained only a small settlement known as Meadowside Village, with very limited road access. To the east lay Fonton, which was separated from the village by undeveloped land and a railway line.
By 1985, noticeable development had taken place. Meadowside Village expanded with the addition of a housing estate, leisure complex, and a superstore. A road network was constructed, improving connectivity within the island and linking the village more effectively to surrounding areas. However, Fonton remained relatively unchanged during this period.
At present, the island has undergone significant urbanisation. Meadowside has evolved into Meadowside Suburbs, featuring a larger housing estate and enhanced leisure facilities. Transport infrastructure has improved substantially, with a station, extended road systems, and better links across the island. New commercial developments, including hotels and a business park, have also been established, indicating economic growth and increased accessibility.
Overall, the island has transformed from a small rural settlement into a well-connected suburban and commercial area with advanced transport and residential systems.
