The graphics illustrate the layout of Station Street as it was in 1960, compared to how it looks now. Overall, the area has undergone a number of developments in terms of facilities and functionality, most notably with the introduction of a supermarket and a car park at the expense of some outlet stores.
Looking first at the Northern section of the layout, a car park has been built at Northwestern, where the pharmacy was previously located. A series of nearby outlets, including the butchery, bakery, grocery, and toy shop, has been combined into a supermarket on the right next to a parking area. Similarly, the other two stores on this site at Northeastern have been demolished to create space for a DVD rental store and a cafe.
Turning to the remaining area, the railway line, which has run along the bottom, and the station in the center, which has been almost unchanged, except for the removal of public telephones. Additionally, the dry-cleaner’s to the east of the station has remained unaltered during the period, while the newsagent in the opposite corner has been converted into a hotel, which has been the final alteration on the layout.
