The two given plans describe a number of changes which took place in Frenton over a 22-year period.
Overall, Frenton underwent dramatic alterations in terms of the layout and the facilities over the period shown. It is clear that the most striking transformation of the area was the disappearance of trees.
In 1990, the high street running from southwest to northeast was lined with a variety of sites. There was a playing field with trees, a hospital and a library and trees along the western side of the high street while along the eastern side of this road were a theatre, and a café and park. In addition, some shops were situated on the bottom right-hand corner of these areas, while there were houses located perpendicular to these shops. There was a school in the northwest of the map and a bank is to the south of it.
Twenty two years later, the hospital was expanded and the bank was cleared to make room for the restaurant. The trees and a playing field with trees were also transformed into the technopark and the blocks of flats respectively. In contrast, the school and the library remained unchanged. In the eastern side, the houses were demolished and replaced by blocks of flats. Additionally, flats were erected on the top right-hand of this street. The café and park area was converted into a hotel and a golf course. The shops and the theater in the southeast were transformed into the supermarket and the cinema respectively.
