The maps illustrate how a coal mining site has been redeveloped over time.
Overall, the site was originally used solely for mining purposes, but it has been transformed into a more visitor-friendly area with recreational and commercial facilities. The most notable changes include the removal of waste tips and the addition of amenities such as a café, a souvenir shop, and a museum.
Before redevelopment, the site mainly consisted of mining-related facilities. The entrance to the underground mine was located near Waste Tip 1 and next to a medical room. On the opposite side, there was a large parking area for trucks near Waste Tip 2. In addition, the office and staff changing room were situated close to each other, with a car park located slightly to the south.
After redevelopment, both waste tips were removed and replaced with a picnic area and a children’s play area. The underground mine entrance was opened to the public, allowing visitors to access it. The medical room was converted into a café, while the former truck parking area was transformed into a souvenir shop. Moreover, the office and staff changing room were combined and turned into a museum. The car park remained unchanged in its original location.
