The diagrams compare how a coal mining site changed before and after redevelopment. They show how the use of land facilities in the area has changed over the period.
Overall, the site changed considerably and became a place for visitors and leisure activities . The industrial area was completely redeveloped .
Looking at the first map, the site included a number of industrial facilities. Most of the northeastern part of the area was occupied by waste tips, while the medical room was located in the center. The car park, office and staff locker room were concentrated mainly in the northwestern part of the site. However the workers’ entrance to the underground mine was linked between waste tip 1 and the office , therefore the southern part was occupied by a Lorry park.
After redevelopment, the site became a visitor attraction with several new facilities .
Most of the waste tip in the northeast has been replaced by a playground, picnic area and driving track. In addition, a museum was constructed in the west part of the area, and a souvenir shop near a car park . Whereas, a first aid room was replaced by a cafe, but the workers’ entrance to the underground mine was not changed.Furthermore, a footpath was built to link the different visitor facilities.
