The maps illustrate how a coal mine has been redeveloped into a tourist attraction.
Overall, the site has undergone radical transformations. The most noticeable change is removal of the two waste tips to make room for recreational facilities.
Starting from the top left corner, the office space and dressing room for mine workers have been converted into a new museum, which occupies the entire building. To the right of the museum, the underground entrance remains unchanged but has been repurposed for tourists instead of workers. Meanwhile, the director board, located at the center of the map, has been replaced by a cafeteria.
In addition to the changes above, the two large waste tips have been entirely pulled down and redeveloped into a digging driving track and a picnic area. In the bottom-right corner of the site, the area has witnessed both the removal of car parking and the additions of new facilities, including a lottery park and children’s playground. Despite these changes, the parking area remains intact in both location and function.
