Overall, this city underwent major changes to accommodate its tenfold larger population. The most notable development of which is the expansion of the urban area, alongside the improvement of transport and water-related infrastructures.
Regarding the residential and commercial zones, the city has seen the development of a dedicated residential area and sprawling business district. This expansion, primarily northward and southward across the river, has largely superseded the original layout of the city from 1950. Furthermore, there was only one government building across the bridge from the dwelling zone, but currently, a new bigger one has been constructed in the south edge of the city.
Since 1950, the transportation network and water management systems have witnessed significant enhancements, with the existing major roads from all four sides now being interconnected, accompanied by a new one added in the south. While the airport’s location on the northwestern edge remains unchanged, it is likely to have been expanded. In addition,the river, which flows from west to east, has widened the part running through the city center to form an artificial lake, alongside a tram to the south. To improve the connectivity between the newly developed banks, a new bridge was built over this lake, complementing the original bridge that still stands in the city center.
