In general, Nelson city is situated on a port. Nelson city in 2000 had only few buildings like a university, train station, old market, and city centre. However, trees were planted near to university and the road near the port for four wheeler.
On the other hand, in present times the city have transformed into a developed town. However, many properties developed on the port which includes bars and clubs for fun and party, and a restaurant for stop over. The road which was for four wheeler has now modified into the footpath for pedestrian. Moreover, in the city centre a new bike rental scheme has started which benefits visitor to visit the city centre easily. Although, old market has redesign into a new shops and new covered market has build beside city centre. Furthermore, the trees which were planted aside from university exchanged to new shopping centre. In the same way, old train station has transformed into new train station as well as the location has also changed. In addition, these new modification also includes a tramline which connects university to city centre.
Nevertheless, new Nelson city has many new buildings but trees make the city incomplete.
