Overall, Nelson has seen significant development in terms of new commercial and residential.

In 2000, Nelson had university lies to the northern of the city, along with a train station and an old market in the western part. Moreover, there was a main road for cars and a port at the bottom of the city. In recent times, a hall of residence can be found in the northwest corner of Nelson, and that next to the university. Furthermore, trees have been demolished into a new shopping center and the old market has been replaced by a new shop.

In addition, the bike rental scheme has been implemented in the city center, the new covered market has been constructed in the southeast part and the main car road has been removed into a pedestrian-only. Along with the city has been developed into a restaurant, bars and clubs at the port in the bottom-hand corner.
