The two maps illustrates the developments which have taken place in the town of Nelson between the year 2000 and the present day.
In general, it appears that this city underwent significant developments in shopping , transportation and recreational facilities, transforming it into a much more modern urban setting. It is also worth pointing out that only the university building remained untouched during this transition.
Commencing with the western side of the city center, the old market that existed in 2000 is demolished to make way for a new shop. In the north, adjacent to the university a hall of residence has been built to accommodate students. A tramline now also connects the university to the city center. Other notable enhancements include the introduction of bike rental scheme and the relocation of the train station from the western side to just above the city center.
Furthermore, on the north eastern corner the lush green trees are cleared and a new shopping center has been erected. Additionally, a completely new covered market has been built on the right side of the city center. The road previously used by cars is now exclusively for pedestrians. The port area which remained completely empty in the past, has now been transformed with the construction of a dining facility, bars and clubs.
