The diagrams compare the present structure of Islip town centre with its proposed redevelopment scheme.
Overall, the central area of the town is expected to undergo significant modernization, with the introduction of various new amenities, including a shopping mall, a transport hub, and a car park, while natural and open areas will largely be removed.
In the future, the farmland to the north of the high street will give way to a bus terminal, a shopping complex, and parking facilities. Meanwhile, a ring road will be constructed around the centre, and the existing main street is projected to be transformed into a pedestrianized zone, improving accessibility and reducing traffic congestion.
Additionally, residential zones are planned for the northeastern and southern parts of the town, whereas the school in the southwest and a number of homes in the southeast will stay the same. It is also worth noting that most of the current local shops will disappear, being substituted with office buildings and modern commercial infrastructure, which will make the centre more urbanized but provide fewer green areas.
