The maps illustrate the development of the town of Wetherby between the years 2000 and 2016.
Overall, the town underwent a significant transformation, shifting from a primarily residential and agricultural area to a more commercial and modernized urban space. However, the woodland area remained unchanged over the 16-year period.
Looking at the area north of Main Street, the farmland in the top left corner was converted into a new housing complex. Moving east, the woodland area saw no changes. Next to it, the original houses were demolished and a block of flats was built in their place. Furthermore, the disused car factory in the top right corner was replaced by a techno park.
South of Main Street, the house with gardens on the left was transformed into a hotel with spa, while the open-air food market was replaced by a supermarket. The square just below it remained in the same location, but several trees were added to it. On the right side, the shops were knocked down to make way for a multi-storey car park. Finally, at the very bottom of the map, the original office block was extended to the east, completely taking over the space previously occupied by the cottages with gardens.
