The map illustrates the urban redevelopment of the town of Wetherby between 2000 and 2016.
Overall, the town experienced substantial transformation over the period, with many existing buildings being demolished, replaced, or converted for new purposes. The only feature that remained unchanged was the woodland located in the north-western part of the town.
In the central area, south of Main Street, the open-air food market was redeveloped into a supermarket. To the west of this new facility, the former shops were demolished and replaced by a multi-storey car park. Additionally, a hotel with a spa was constructed on the site of a former house with gardens, located further west. The central square was also enhanced by the addition of trees in front of the supermarket.
Significant changes also occurred in the southern part of the town. In 2000, an office block was situated in the south-western area, with cottages and their gardens positioned opposite it. By 2016, these cottages had been removed and replaced by another office block, resulting in an expansion of office facilities in this district.
In the northern part of Wetherby, the farmland was redeveloped into a housing complex, while nearby houses were replaced by a block of flats. In contrast, the adjacent woodland remained intact. Finally, in the north-eastern area, the disused car factory was transformed into a technology park, reflecting a shift towards more modern commercial use.
