The three maps illustrate the development of Meadowside Village and the neighbouring town of Fonton from 1962 to the present day.
Overall, both Meadowside Village and Fonton have experienced significant growth over the years, eventually merging into a single, interconnected urban area. Meadowside evolved from a small, isolated village into a suburban district featuring various amenities. In contrast, Fonton underwent minimal changes, including the construction of a railway track and station.
In 1962, Meadowside and Fonton were separate settlements, each having limited infrastructure and no transportation links connecting them. While Fonton had a rail line heading north, Meadowside had only a small road running through it from the west.
In 1985, Meadowside expanded considerably and the original small road was upgraded to a main road. A new main road was built, which linked the village directly to Fonton. Additionally, Meadowside saw the emergence of several key facilities, such as a leisure complex, housing estate, and superstore. Meanwhile, Fonton also increased in size.
Currently, Meadowside has further developed into suburbs after joining with Fonton. A new railway track has been established to connect the two areas, and a hotel, station, and business park now occupy land on both sides of the track.
