The illustrations represent the modifications that have occurred in the town of Newport from 1980 to 2010.
Overall, the town has experienced several changes throughout the three decades. New roads and buildings have been constructed, but others have been removed or relocated.
In 1980, the west and east sides of the town were connected by a bridge on the main road because of a river. In the northwest area, a hospital was present, together with a large parking lot, and just in front of it, a school was built. On the east side of Newport, a small residential area formed by several houses was found, and just on the other side of the road, the railway station was located in the southeast of the city. To the north of the residential area, an unconnected road was found by the town’s lake.
In contrast, by 2010, a new bridge had been constructed, connecting the existing road next to the lake to the west side of the town, causing the hospital’s parking lot to shrink and be relocated to the east side of the building. On that same road, the school was demolished and replaced by a shopping center. The residential area formed by houses was also demolished that year, and an apartment complex was built, together with a factory on the very east side of the town. On the opposite side, a university was built next to the river, and west of this building, an exercise area was constructed. In the south area, the rail station had been relocated to the opposite side of town, as well as an expansion on the train railway that crosses the east and west areas of Newport.
