The two maps illustrate how the village of Stokeford changed between 1930 and 2010. Overall the village became much larger and more modern with many new houses and a retirement home replacing the old farmland and shops.
In 1930 Stokeford was quiet rural settlement located on the east of the River Stoke. At that time there were only few houses along the main road together with a post office, several shops and a primary school in front of the postal building. In the south of the primary school there was a large house surrounded by land was used for farming.
If we look at over the following eight years the area had undergone a major transformation. Residential areas and many new houses were built which resulted in the disappearance of the farmland. In addition the local shops that once stood next to the post office were removed while the postal service remained in the same location. The large house and its gardens in the southern part of the village were converted into a retirement home. Despite these major developments the primary school and the brige across the River Stoke stayed unchanged throughout the period.
