The two maps illustrate how a section of a town, whose name was Poulton, changed over a thirty-five-year period from 1900 to 1935.
Overall, the Bayley area, which was an industrial and residential sector of this town, experienced a notable alteration and turned into a more commercial and recreational space for its residents.
The most considerable improvement is the construction of Bayley Street Park and a play area for children in 1935 on the area that was wasteland and allocated to railway facilities in 1900. Furthermore, a shop was relocated to the right of the park in 1935, and as a response to the increasing population, its number tripled in the same period. Also, a new pathway has been built between shops and recreational areas for easy access.
Due to the significant growth of population, terraced houses were demolished after 1900 and replaced with two huge flats. What is more, the Bayley mansions developed instead of a flattening factory, which was located at the top of the map in the early 1900s.
