The two maps illustrate the shifts which have taken place in Nelson city since 2000.
It is evident that the city has undergone significant modifications. It used to have a few shopping facilities; however, following the redevelopment, it has introduced a wide range of new amenities, including but not limited to new market. It has also newly built a hall of residence, attracting people to live in the city; and it has inaugurated bike rental schemes as well as converted highway into pedestrian-only road, promoting health among its residents.
Since 2000, Nelson city has considerably transformed, with the most notable change being a 5-storey accommodation on the top left hand side of the layout. Furthermore, the city has introduced a new shopping centre which came at the expense of a greenery area, beside which the tramway has been laid, connecting the city centre with the university. Moreover, it is the newly arrived train station which has been built between the university and the city centre.
Besides, old market on the west was demolished only to give way to new shops. In the centre, city installed a bike rental scheme, providing occupants with fitness, right of which a new covered market has been constructed. While the motorway was changed to a footpath, a new restaurant as well as bars and cafes have been aligned horizontally across the port.
