The two maps show how the town of Lakeside developed over a ten-year period from 2000 to 2009. Overall, the town became noticeably more urbanised while also losing some of it’s original features.
In both years, the town was practically divided into two parts by a river running in the middle, which ended at a lake in a woodland Iying North East of the town. This lake became a pond in 2009. The residential area in the South East area of the town was completely removed while the woodland was shrunken down to make space for the expansion of the industrial complex.
On the Western side of the river the residential area was repurposed into a shopping centre. The art centre was expanded and turned into a multi-screen cinema. The residential area in the North West corner remained unchanged over the period while the old town in the Northern demolished area was removed, having been replaced by offices and a university. The school in the Northern was shrunken and moved slightly to the East. Finally, the derelict warehouse in the North was demolished to make space for a car park and offices.
