The given maps compare Shalton village features from 1910 to 2010
In general, a noticeable change is the addition of numerous houses across all parts of the village. Additionally, several facilities such as a supermarket and bank were built, enhancing convenience for the residential area.
At the village centre, a large house surrounded by trees was presented in 1910. After a century, this house was demolished to make space for smaller homes. Similarly, the butcher to the left of the large house was replaced with a parking space, a supermarket and a bank. This trend continued with the removal of the baker’s store and the grocer to construct a cafe shop.
In contrast, the post office at the centre top of the map remained exactly the same after 100 years, with only the development of residential accommodations. The bottom of the map at High Street also saw limited modernisation with only a few new houses added to this area.
