Given are the two maps illustrating the major alterations that the village of Wells-on-the-Water in the UK underwent over a twenty – five period from 1985 to 2010.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that the whole village was dramatically transformed into the modern village with more infrastractures and amenities. However, all green trees were chopped down and livestock areas were disappeared.
According to the 1985 map, before the renovation, the village was comparatively small. It was surrounded by many farmland and trees. There were two main roads in the west of the map, namely: Wood Drive and Mansion Lane, but they were restricted by livestock areas. To the right of Wood Drive was Mansion gardens and house. To the opposite side was an old factory. In the southern of the 1985 map, farm house and post office were built. Moreover, there was a River Wells along the east of the village.
The second map clearly shows that the forest in the north of the village was cleared to make way for the Queen Drive road and new modern amenities. In the bottom of the map, Mansion Lane was extended across the river by a bridge. In 2010, an old factory to the west of Wood Drive was converted into a luxury flats. One notable change is the modification of the Mansion House into the Care Home. Another change is that the farmhouse was replaced with the park in the south of the village.
