The maps illustrate how the town of Westerling changed between 2000 and 2011. Overall, the town become more modern with many new buildings and roads. Some old areas were removed, and new facilities were built to improve transport and living conditions.
In 2000, the west of the town had houses, a street market, and some factories. In the east, there was a woodland area, a school and a few detached houses. There was also a bus station and a car park in the south.
By 2011, many changes had taken place. The factories were superseded by a large multi-storey car park, and the street market disappeared. A hotel and a technopark were built in the southeast instead of the car park and detached houses. The bus station became a bus and railway station. A golf club was added near the school, while the woodland area became smaller. In the northwest, new blocks of flats were built, and a motorway M52 was introduced across the north of the town.
