Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,

I am writing this letter to express my gratitude for inviting me to my best friend’s surprise birthday bash on his memorable day.

Firstly, It would be a great idea to celebrate the auspicious event, in an interesting way as we all know that Chris love surprises. Due to some unforeseeable situation, I would not be able to participate in the event because my grandfather is admitted in an hospital for a cardiac procedure, and I would accompany my family for this out of town visit on that particular day.

However, upon my arrival, I intend to treat Chris in his favorite restaurant, along with a couple of our mutual friends and it would be an immense pleasure if both of you could join us as well. I hope that this would compensate my absence from his special day.
