The table presents data on the proportion of households in New Zealand that owned various electronic devices in 1998 and 2002. All figures are shown as percentages.
Overall, it can be seen that the ownership of most electronic goods increased by 2002, while the video recorder was the only item that showed a decline over the period.
Looking at the details, washing machines experienced almost no change, remaining stable at 98% in both years. Colour TV ownership also rose slightly, from 95% in 1998 to 97% in 2002. There were significant rises in the proportions of households with computers and cell phones, which increased from 50% to 78% and from 20% to 80% respectively.
In contrast, video recorders became less common, dropping from 75% in 1998 to 60% in 2002. Dishwasher ownership, however, grew considerably from 18% to 55%. Digital cameras showed the most dramatic increase, climbing from just 2% in 1998 to 39% in 2002.
