During 1972, the adult fiction, biography, and children’s fiction captured 20 percent each while, travel genre was the lowest with only 15 percent. The most books sold went to the “Others” category.
By 1992, the adult fiction contributed 25% to all the books sold and gained 5 percent more compared to 1972. Children’s fiction and travel both saw a small increment of 2 and 3 percent respectively whereas biography declined to 15 percent, losing 5 percent compared to the previous year.
In contrast, adult fiction had a surge capturing 45 percent of all books sold. A small increase also was seen in children’s fiction. Rest all genre saw a sharp decline with biography at the bottom.
Altogther, adult and children’s fiction has been growing steadliy since 1972 and has been a popular choice among readers.
