The bar charts gives information about the average household expenditures in six categories over the 60-year period.
Overall, it is clear that in the beginning of the period housing was the dominant category, however at the end food represented the highest proportion. In contrast the least common household expenditure was health care in both years.
In 1950, the most common household expenditure was housing, accounting for 72.1%. Meanwhile, the food was almost twice as high as education, presenting 11.2% and 6.6%, respectively. The proportion of other and transportation were approximately similar, accounting for 4.4% and 3.3%, respectively. The proportion of health care was the least common copmaring with other, showing only 2.4%.
On the other hand, in 2010 the proportion of the food was the highest almost 34%. In contrast, the proportion of housing dramatically dropped to 22%. Transportation and other significantly rose to 14.01% and 19.2%, respectively. The proportion of education remained a stable, slightly increased to 6.3%. Finally, however the proportion of health care doubled, remained the least, accounting 4.5%
